The straight dope on what's going on in Hip-Hop, Media and Entertainment

Mar 28, 2007

On Monday (April 2) Russell Simmons' HSAN and Reverend Al Sharpton are scheduled to join Czar Entertainment at a public grievance and rally concerning Tony Yayo's alleged assault on Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond's 14 year-old son.

Cynthia Reed, the mother of James Rosemond, will also be in attendance in addition to community leaders, parents, students and religious leaders. The demonstrations will be begin with a press conference.

"We are involved to try to help mediate this problem," HSAN President/CEO Dr. Benjamin Chavis said in a statement. "In truth, every child in our community is precious. The theme of the Hip-Hop Summit is taking back responsibility. With artistic freedom comes responsibility. Therefore anytime a child in our community is harmed it is of great concern to us. We are hoping and praying that this matter can be resolved peacefully and resolutely. At the end of the day the interest of our children will be better served."

Tony Yayo (born Marvin Bernard) allegedly accosted the youth for sporting a Czar Entertainment t-shirt as he was heading to his father's offices to intern. Initial reports claimed that 50 Cent was present at the time of the incident. However, 50's lawyers have asserted that he was not in New York at the time of the incident. Yayo was arrested and charged for harassment as well as endangering the welfare of a child. He was later released on $5,000 bail.

The press conference is slated to take place on April 2 in Manhattan, NY. At press time the location has not yet been determined.

Jimmy Henchman is the Game's manager.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Kanye West dropped almost $7.2 million on the house, which was listed by Judi Schryro of Hilton & Hyland in Beverly Hills.

West's purchase marked the first occasion the home had been on the market in over 45 years. The 3,300 square foot two-story home, which was built in 1921, has six bedrooms and four bathrooms and sits on nearly an acre of manicured land.

Kanye is expected to release his third album, Graduation later this year.

As SOHH previously reported, West has also been developing an HBO comedy series with producer/director Larry Charles (Borat, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Seinfeld).

In other news, Kanyeezy's management team, Hip-Hop Since 1978, recently signed a deal with Lil' Wayne to co-manage the rapper. West, who has admitted on several occasions to being a big fan of Weezy's work, is expected to work on Wayne's highly anticipated The Carter 3 album.

As revealed on their MySpace Blog, Phonte of Little Brother confirmed today that the new album Get Back is 90% finished, showing a jpeg image of 12 tracks in an Itunes player, but also revealed that there's another project on the horizon. Leave It All Behind is the working title for the new Foreign Exchange LP, which will re-team Phonte and producer Nicolay. No label information has been revealed as of yet, but the last album was released on BBE, so that's a heavy possibility.
