The straight dope on what's going on in Hip-Hop, Media and Entertainment

Ol' Dirty Bastard's long-delayed posthumous album, A Son Unique, might not see the light of day anytime soon due to a monetary dispute between Damon Dash and the late rapper's estate.

According to the New York Post, Jarred Weisfeld, ODB's former manager, and the rapper's widow, Icelene Jones, claim in papers that were filed in Brooklyn Surrogate Court last month, that Dash still owes "a couple hundred thousand more" on a contract he signed with the estate.
Dash, who owns the rights to A Son Unique, reportedly only shelled out $1 million to ODB.

A Son Unique was scheduled for release last month but has yet to hit shelves. ODB (born Russell Tyrone Jones) begun working on the album in 2004 but dies from an accidental overdose while recording it.

"If money is still owed to the estate . . . Mr. Dash does not intend to pay them and will drop his plans to release the record," Icelene stated in the aforementioned court papers, which are part of an ongoing battle over ODB's estate.

She also claims Dash has failed to turn over his documents related to the deal. Dash's spokesperson would offer no comment when contacted.
As SOHH previously reported, Icelene is fighting Weisfeld and ODB's Monther, Cherry Jones, for control of the deceased Wu-Tang member's estate. She alleges that ODB's mother helped herself to hundreds of thousands of her late husband's cash."

"It appears that $200,000 to $500,000 of funds belonging to [ODB] may have been misused or be owed by Cherry Jones to the estate," Icelene charged in the court papers.

"That's the most retarded allegation I've ever heard in my life," Weisfeld told The Post. "Icelene knows where all that money went - it went to Icelene. All Dirty did was take care of her."

A Son Unique, which was to be released via Damon Dash Music Group, features appearances from Macy Gray, Missy Elliot, RZA, Ghostface Killah Raekwon, Method Man, N.O.R.E., Pharrell and Clipse, among others

Beyonce recently revealed that she'll be paying her own money for two more videos from her sophomore CD, B'Day.

"Listen," the fourth single from Beyonce's five-time Grammy nominated album, will be the last single that her record label, Sony Urban, plans to finance.

"I'm spending my own money to make two more videos from my album," Beyonce told Fox News at New York City premiere for her new film, "Dreamgirls."

Sony Urban recently folded its operations into sister labels Epic and Columbia. To date, B'Day has produced three videos, including "Déjà Vu" featuring Jay-Z, "Ring The Alarm" and "Irreplaceable." The previously mentioned "Listen" also appears on the Dreamgirls soundtrack.

Though she showcases her vocal range with "Listen," Beyonce was asked to restrain her vocal ability during the movie. "Vocally I had to completely hold back. I had to whisper things-- I couldn't sing anything in my full voice -- and the simpler I sang it, the happier [the director] was," explained the singer. "[My character] Deena had a very soft voice and she didn't have a lot of soul. I couldn't sing how I wanted until 'Listen,' which is that important moment."

On another note, B insists that although there are several striking parallels, she and Deena are very different.

"My usual performance style -- the energy and the dancing and the growling -- is the complete opposite of Deena," Beyonce said in the January issue of Vanity Fair magazine which features the cast of "Dreamgirls" on the cover. "They didn't know if I could be understated and if I could play the part, basically."

"Dreamgirls" is in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day while the movie's soundtrack is in stores now.

Last week Lil Wayne made some disparaging comments about fellow rappers Jay Z, Pharrell and The Clipse. People in the entertainment industry were wondering what could have brought on the unlikely outburst. Well MediaTakeOut.com may have the answer. We've learned that hip hop artist Lil Wayne may have a problem with the pain killer Vicodin.

MediaTakeOut.com spoke with a radio DJ who claims to have witnessed Lil Wayne pop what appeared to be Vicodin pills during an on-air interview. The DJ explained, "when [Lil] Wayne came to the studio, he was acting real funny ... At first I thought he had just smoked [marijuana] because he was acting real paranoid." Then, according to our source, one of Wayne's entourage handed him a prescription bottle full of pills. The DJ went on, "Wayne took a few pills and all of a sudden he started to act regular."

But that wasn't the end of the story. The DJ tells, "Wayne kept taking the pills over and over - he must have taken 20 pills or so during [the course of] the interview ... at one point I got scared that he might [overdose], but his people seemed to be cool with it - so I was too."

After the interview, the DJ tells MediaTakeOut.com, the effects of the pills were evident. Our source explains, "Wayne was so twisted that his people basically carried him out of the station ... [his public relations representative] told us he was just tired from all the traveling, but everyone knew what was up."

According to the National Institute Of Drug Abuse, people addicted to Vicodin have an unusually high tolerance for the prescription painkiller.

And there is more evidence that Wayne may have a problem with Vicodin. Earlier this year, the New Orleans rapper was arrested for drug possession. Among the items found in his possession were 59 pills of the prescription drug Vicodin.
