The straight dope on what's going on in Hip-Hop, Media and Entertainment

Dec 19, 2006

decade ago, Diddy's Bad Boy Records was one of the top labels in the music industry. In the years since, most of its top artists, including Faith Evans and Mary J Blige, have all decidedz to go to other labels. Now MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Cassie, Bad Boy's number one artist, is looking to jump ship.

MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively with a Bad Boy insider who claims that Cassie and her manager Ryan Leslie are trying desperately to be released from Bad Boy Records. According to the source, Cassie's team feels that Bad Boy hasn't put enough of an effort in marketing the teen singer. The insider explains, "when you look at what Def Jam did for Rihanna, or what LaFace is doing for Ciara, you can kind of understand where she's coming from."

But there may be more to the story than meets the eye. MediaTakeOut.com spoke with another insider who claims that Cassie has personal reasons for wanting to leave Diddy's camp. And those reasons, according to the source, have Cassie's management exploring the idea of filing a lawsuit against Bad Boy. While the source refused to give specific details about what occurred, the source did tell us that "there was some harassment."

Right now it's also not clear what form of harrassment Cassie may have suffered, nor whether the "harassment" involved Diddy personally.

Either way, it looks like Cassie is ready to move on with her life. In a blog that the teenage beauty uses to update her fans, she recently posted the following entry:

"I've had the ride of my life, all for it to result in opening up my eyes wider than I had them before. Really digging in and seeing what makes people move, what makes them react to other people. I'M BACK ON THE INTERNET. Right where I started, to vent and share the good and bad experiences to you, as I start over. You bought my album and supported me all of the way, I owe it to you. Here's to Old ... New Beginnings." -

(I'm no fan of Post-Biggie Bad Boy or Puffy, but Cassie, both Rihanna and Ciara put out better albums than you did. Now, that may or may not have been Bad Boy's fault, and with all the marketing in the world, people are only going to buy so much shit. - Rob)

And speaking of Rihanna. . .

Rihanna has quickly developed into one of R&B's biggest stars. She has a refreshing mix of innocence and sex appeal that most people find alluring. But MediaTakeOut.com has learned that the innocence part may just be an act.

In an exclusive interview, MediaTakeOut.com spoke with one of Rihanna's childhood friends who opened up about the teen's wild past. Our source, who grew up with Rihanna in Barbados, claims that the teenage Rihanna was a regular at the local nightclubs. The tipster tells, "she was in the club underage, trying to get with older guys ... [but] it hardly ever worked because she had horrible skin."

And Rihanna apparently wouldn't let school get in the way of all her partying. According to our source, the teenage sensation skipped school so frequently that she was forced to repeat both the 8th and 9th grades.

But the most startling revelation that the pal told MediaTakeOut.com was that Rihanna had a reputation for sleeping with other women's boyfriends. The friend tells, "A lot of people hated and despised Rihanna. In 2004 she got into a fight at Janine [LAST NAME WITHHELD]'s house because they found out Rihanna slept with her boyfriend."

And Rihanna's apparent habit for stealing boyfriends may have destroyed one of her closest friendships. The friend explains, "Rihanna had a best friend named Kelenna [LAST NAME WITHHELD]. Rihanna deceived her friend by having sex with Kelenna's boyfriend named 'Ghetto'. Bear in mind [that] Rihanna was barely even 16. This is why to this day, Rihanna and Kelenna do not speak."

This isn't the first time that we've heard about Rihanna's boyfriend-stealing ways. Earlier this year, MediaTakeOut.com reported that Beyonce was worried that Rihanna was getting uncomfortably close to Jay Z.

And according to Rihanna's former pal, Beyonce has a lot to worry about. The friend explains, "I believe to this day that [Rihanna] forced herself on Jay Z because she is extremely promiscuous ... Old habits never die."

(Rihanna is promiscuous and has a history of sleeping with over women's boyfriend. Hmmm. I have a girlfriend and I think I would enjoy sleeping with Rihanna. I should give her a call. - Rob)

As one of Hip-Hop's best live performers, Doug E. Fresh can rest assured that his place in rap history is secured.

Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped the rhyme veteran from educating current rap fans on the essence of the culture through his new cartoon series Ultra Five.

"It's about the five different elements of Hip-Hop. I'm also building a film studio in Harlem," Doug E. Fresh told AllHipHop.com. "I should hopefully be dropping an album too."

The rapper revealed his plans during a recent trip to London, where he and fellow rap legend Big Daddy Kane were on hand to perform at an exclusive party thrown by footwear giant Puma.

The company celebrated its decision to bring back its Puma States shoes at the event, which took place last week at Canvas, Kings Cross.

In addition to Ultra Five, Doug E. Fresh will be seen on the small screen with Sean "Diddy" Combs in January as host of HBO and Sean Combs' Bad Boys of Comedy.

The rapper also expressed his feelings about Hip-Hop being dead, the lyricist feels different.

"The current state of Hip-Hop is good to me. I mean, everybody's making money, people are enjoying themselves, songs are coming out, records are being produced and there's an independent line now where artist's have the ability to make independent deals and songs and still get a lot of exposure," Fresh said. "You've got the Internet, over 400 channels, publications, radio, underground radio, all kinds of communication devices like chat rooms and you can sell your songs at the shows. It's an opportunity for anybody to come out with great music and work it."

As a pioneer and elder statesman in Hip-Hop, Doug E. Fresh noted the key to success was a long, fruitful career.

"As far as the songs coming out, some of them are good and some are wack. But that's been going on for a minute!" he continued. "There's so much room for the upcoming artists, like the new Big Daddy Kane's, the new Doug E Fresh's and that's what I wanna see. But I want them to be there with longevity. A lot of them out right now don't perform as well as they should."
