The straight dope on what's going on in Hip-Hop, Media and Entertainment

After being postponed a week, Kimberly "Lil' Kim" Jones has just been sentenced to a year and a day in prison and fined $50,000 for lying under oath to a grand jury.

The Queen Bee's sentencing was initially slated to take place June 24th, but was eventually delayed until today, July 6th.

Kim was found guilty of three counts of perjury and one count of conspiracy this past March, but was acquitted of obstruction of justice.

Kim faced up to 20 years in prison, five years for each count she was convicted for.

The Brooklyn rapper was convicted of lying to a grand jury in relation to a 2001 shooting outside of New York's Hot 97's radio station. The day of the incident, Kim's entourage faced off with Capone-N-Noreaga's crew. Kim's team confronted CNN about the group's song, "Bang Bang" where Kim's rival Foxy Brown took shots at the Queen Bee. Moments into the confrontation, shots were exchanged and one man was injured.

Yesterday, the Wallace family's legal team divulged that an LAPD detective allegedly hid records that implicated two corrupt police officers in The Notorious B.I.G.'s murder.

The new development postponed the family's wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles until tomorrow, July 7th and could possibly lead to a mistrial. According to family attorney Perry Sanders Jr., the hidden records are a secret file and two videotapes featuring a prison informant saying that corrupt cop Rafael Perez admitted that he and fellow crooked cop David A. Mack helped to arrange Biggie's 1997 killing. The records were hidden in Detective Steven Katz' "middle desk drawer."

According to the lawyer for the City of Los Angeles, Vincent Marella, Det. Steven Katz "just forgot they were in there" until he began preparing to testify 12 days ago. Word is Judge Florence Marie Cooper didn't believe Katz's claim.

"The notion that Katz forgot about the file is incredible to the court. It defies credulity. I do not believe it," the judge said

The documented statements were recently discovered in police files last weekend after someone at the LAPD tipped off lawyers with an anonymous phone call. Deputy City Attorney Don Vincent said he found the report and a taped interview of the informant late on June 24th. The statements were made by the informant, "Kenny B," five years ago.

Judge Cooper is set to reach a decision on how to handle the LAPD's alleged conduct when the trial resumes tomorrow. Sources say the family's attorneys want Cooper to rule a "default judgment," in which the city of Los Angeles would be held responsible for Biggie's murder and push the trial to the monetary damages stage or announce a mistrial. The City of Los Angeles wants the trial to continue as if the tapes were never discovered.

The Wallace family's lawyers claim that Mack, an LAPD officer, plotted with Death Row head Marion "Suge" Knight to have the rapper slain to avenge Tupac Shakur's killing.

As head of McDonald's latest campaign, Hip-Hop mogul Steve Stoute is set to recruit urban clothing lines to help redesign the fast food giant's uniforms.

Earlier this year, Micky D's hired rappers to attend events, offered money to artists to use the term "Big Mac" in their lyrics and have used rap songs in their commercials. Now in hopes of making their brand more appealing, Micky D's has hired Hip-Hop impresario Steve Stoute. Stoute runs Translation Consulting and Brand Imaging and will arrange a fashion makeover for the food chain. Sources say Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' Sean John, Jay-Z and Damon Dash's Rocawear, Russell Simmons' Phat Farm, and Tommy Hilfiger are being considered to give the uniforms a more urban look.

"We believe that restaurant employees are brand ambassadors and this is a great opportunity to have crew uniforms which are reflective of that," said McDonald's spokesman Bill Whitman. "This would create designs that they'll be proud to wear not only in the restaurant, but outside, as well."

Stoute brings his successful branding history to the Micky D's project. To date, the mogul has paired Justin Timberlake with McDonald's, Jay-Z and Reebok, and Beyonce Knowles with Hilfiger.

"McDonald's has evolved and become a lifestyle brand. Since it now is relevant to our lifestyle, let's go one step further and make its employees relevant to our lifestyle as well," Stoute stated.

Former Run-DMC member Reverend Run has announced the completion of his first ever solo album, Distortion.

The album was produced entirely by Run and Whiteboy. The first single from the album, “Mind On the Road,” will be featured in EA Sports’ popular football title, “Madden 2006.”

Run, born Joseph Simmons, is the younger brother of Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons.

Russell Simmons recently launched a new label, the Russell Simmons Music Group, which is distributed by the Island Def Jam Music Group, a Universal company.

Simmons managed Run-DMC before founding pioneering Hip-Hop label, Def Jam Records along with partner Rick Rubin in 1984.

“Timing is everything," Russell Simmons said in a statement. "The uncompromising loud abrasive rock and roll hip-hop of Run-DMC knocked open the doors to commercial freedom for the rap generation. Their very best efforts were big in the streets and were ahead of their time when it came to the mainstream. The debut album from Rev Run, Distortion, is honest, creative, special, refreshing, and still incredibly commercial. The time is now for Rev Run."

The release of Run’s solo album also coincides with the release of four classic Run-DMC reissues: Run-DMC, King of Rock, Raising Hell and Tougher Than Leather.

The reissues hit stores September 6, while Distortion hits stores on September 13.

An interesting rumor has hit the StreetHop.com news desk; The Game was apparently in Belgium at a Rock festival where he had problems with the crowd, who were obviously rock fans.

Known for drinking on stage, The Game drank half a bottle of champagne followed by another drink, and then a whole bottle of Hennessy.

It’s unclear whether this was supposed to impress the crowd, or simply drown his sorrows, but obviously having overdone it a little, he ran off stage, vomited, and was then taken away to hospital.

We’ll try to get an official word for you, so stay tuned to StreetHop.com for all of The Game’s stomach pumping antics. Having experienced alcohol poisoning and the resulting hangover ourselves, we obviously wish The Game best of luck and a speedy recovery.

Following the expiration of the contract for Slum Village on Capitol records they have decided to release thier material through thier own label "Barak Entertainment".

Slum Village's first release through this label will be a mixtape titled Prequel to a classic, following this will be the self-titled album Slum Village due September 13th feat Kurupt and more.

Slum Village have held down the Detroit underground for years. And rightfully so. Their commercial debut, Fantastic Volume 2, featured heads like D'Angelo and Q-Tip (who literally passed the hip-hop torch to Slum on record) and had the Roots' ?uestlove saying "Simply stated, if it weren't for Slum Village, I'd quit the business and go back to college." D'Angelo relayed the following about hearing an early version of the group's album: "I remember we were in the studio... and then Q-Tip came in and played the Slum tape and I was just floored, man. I was screaming, jumping up...I haven't felt like that about music since - I can't remember the last time I felt like that about some music. It was incredible." It's love like this that have caused Slum Village to be christened as the next level in soulful, vintage hip-hop.

Baatin and T3 (along with former member/producer Jay Dee, who left the trio to pursue a solo career) have known each other since they were in their teens, having grown up in the Conant Gardens neighborhood of Detroit. While they spent the majority of their career in the underground, the sound from their debut album soundly strangely familiar; this was due to the fact that Jay Dee is also a part of the awesome production team The Ummah, which cooked up beats for A Tribe Called Quest's last two albums, Q-Tip Amplified, D'Angelo Voodoo, Common Like Water For Chocolate, The Pharcyde's Runnin, Stakes Is High from De La Soul, and a number of remixes for artists like Janet Jackson and Brand New Heavies. Since Jay Dee was responsible for the Slum sound, many saw his departure as the end of Slum, but remaining members Baatin and T3, have shown amazing resiliency with the incorporation of contributing member Elzhi and a host of new production talent on their recent release Trinity: Past, Present, Future. The trio is preparing to hit the road for a fall tour with soulful singer/songwriter India.arie and the British hip-hop poetry duo Floetry.
