Over ten years after breaking up, Digable Planets has reunited and is in the midst of a series of North American concerts.
"I've been on a personal crusade to get the group back together," group member Doodlebug aka Craig Irving stated
Doodlebug also has an on-going solo career under the moniker Cee Knowledge. Ladybug aka Mary Ann Vieira and Butterfly aka Ishmael Butler have also rejoined the group. The trio called it quits after two albums and a 1993 Grammy win for the single, "Rebirth of Slick"(Cool like Dat).
"We had personal issues, issues with our management company and issues with our record label," Doodlebug revealed. "If we wanted stress we would have gotten nine-to-five jobs."
The group first reunited last year and began a series of European concerts together in February.
"We locked ourselves in a room," Doodlebug offered. "We were able to air out a lot of things. We talked about the past and the future."
While a collective album won't hit the streets until 2006, Ladybug's long delayed solo debut, Trip The Light Fantastic, is set to hit stores next Tuesday. Doodlebug and Butterfly will join Ladybug in WashingtonD.C. on Monday as part of a series of North American concert dates. Despite the elongated absence, the trio isn't concerned with fitting into today's music landscape.
"It never really concerned us to fit in," Ladybug declared. "I mean, yeah, you turn MTV and see one type of sound represented more than others, but there's still a whole underground market where artists can be creative, express themselves, be true to who they are and still live great."
