The straight dope on what's going on in Hip-Hop, Media and Entertainment

Nov 15, 2004

On February 8, 2005 Universal Hove Video will release MIAMI VICE: Season One on DVD. Compiling the 22 shows from the 1984-1985 season, this three-disc set was originally broadcast on NBC and starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two "MTV cops" that worked for Miami's vice squad. When the show first aired on network television, its dynamic visual style, expensive costumes and cool, comtemporary soundtrack made it a cultural phenomenon. After climbing to the top of the Nielsen ratings, MIAMI VICE closed the door on its final case in its fifth season (1989).

The episodes will be presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio, full frame format and in English Dolby Digital 5.1. English, French and Spanish subtitles will also be included. Unfortunately there won't be any commentary tracks but series executive producer Michael Mann will provide an introduction to the set. Four featuettes will also be included focusing on the impact the show had on 80s fashion, the music used in MIAMI VICE, the back story of the series and a "Vibe of Vice" short.

The set should retail for $59.98 (cigarette speedboat not included.)
(About damn time, since almost EVERY modern action show or movie blatantly steals from this show's template . It's a shame they don't borrow the one element of VICE that's rarely seen in entertainment anymore:that show almost never had happy endings...and considering that it dealt with vicious drug dealers, that was appropriate-mister X)
