A Tribe Called Quest will hit the studio starting in July to start recording for their reunion album. According to Phife, the death of Jam Master Jay is the reason the group has reunited.

"What really brought it to the forefront was the whole Jam Master Jay thing," Phife told AllHipHop.com. "We just wanted to be Run-DMC. Me and Q-Tip grew around the corner from them. Those were our heroes."

Phife said that while he initially had reservations about the reunification of one of the most important groups in hip-hop, the love he received from fans ultimately helped with his decision.

When I go out all the time, when I am just hanging out at the mall doin' my thing everybody is saying, 'You guys gotta do it, you need to come back.' After a while you gotta appreciate the love," Phife said.

No release date has been set for the yet to be titled album.

According to reports, LL Cool J, the first artist to release a record on Def Jam, is actively seeking a new home to release records, after his proposed $20 million dollar deal with Def Jam was shot down by executives.

While the deal that LL sought didn't happen, the rapper is still in negotiations with the label, for whom he has sold tens of millions of CD's.

In related news, LL is preparing for the release of S.W.A.T., which is the big screen treatment of the 1970's series of the same name.

Chino XL is back in the studio, finishing up tracks for his highly anticipated album, Chino XL is Poison Pen.

The album will feature tracks with Cuban Link and Gisele Jackson and feature production by Nick Wiz, newcomer Ghost, Fantom of the Beat, the brains behind 50 Cent and Lil Kim's hit collaboration, "Magic Stick."

The rapper's latest album will drop on Activate Records, with whom he inked a joint venture deal.

The album is slated for a late fall release date.

In related news Chino's first feature film, "Alex and Emma", which also stars Kate Hudson is in theaters nationwide June 20th.

Chino will also appear on the Showtime series, "Reno 911."
