The straight dope on what's going on in Hip-Hop, Media and Entertainment

Apr 29, 2003

In an unexpected media alert released just minutes ago, Roc-A-Fella Records CEO Damon Dash is calling a press conference with controversial Wu-Tang Clan member, Ol' Dirty Bastard to make "several important announcements." Speculations are whirling that Dame and ODB may be announcing his jump to the Roc-A-Fella family after several years in prison and a mental rehabilitation facility.

ODB, aka Big Baby Jesus, aka OSirus and recently known as Dirt McGirt, will make his first public appearance at the press conference since his release weeks ago. ODB has been M.I.A. since has last album The Trials and Tribulations of Russell Jones which dropped in March 2002. The video for the single "Hey Dirty... Baby I Got Your Money" was pieced together from old blaxploitation flicks and past Wu-Tang videos as ODB was in prison.

The ODB has a dizzying and sporatic record with criminal and mental institutions including being caught in 2000 after escaping from a drug rehab center, pleading guilty to drug charges stemming from his 1999 arrest and later for violating his probation and possession of body armor. Rumors have circulated of a mental breakdown, crack addiction and criminal behavior.

The press conference, expected to be "historic," will take place this Thursday.
