According to Variety, Fox has canned ''Bernie Mac Show'' creator Larry Wilmore, who led the show to a Emmy writing win just last year. Wilmore had clashed with Fox over the direction of the show, and the network felt that the show didn't have enough laughs. They also were disappointed with the show's ratings.
Wilmore recently told EW that he was frustrated with Fox's treatment of the show, complaining that the network frequently yanked ''Mac'' off the air. ''They'll pull us for whatever reality show brings that 30 share,'' he said. He also complained of creative interference: '' We actually get notes where they say -- and this is not an exaggeration or a reinterpretation -- 'No more poignancy.'''
